Elder John Earl Singleton, sunrise May 16, 1929 - sunset June 14, 2020, was born to proud parents the late Elder Israel and Amelia Isaac Singleton. He was a native of Sumter and received his education in the public schools of Sumter County.

He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, USA, Dalzell, where he served in various capacities of the church.

He was an employee with FCX Inc. for 35 years and a black farmer for more than 40 years in South Carolina. He was a wildlife hunter and loved hound dogs. He was a Negro League baseball player, and his position was back catcher for 10 years.

Elder Singleton was a Prince Hall F. A. Master Mason - Life Time Membership Honor (Gum Spring Lodge #458), Knights of Pythagoras, former member of the Bernie Elks Lodge #1195, Grand United Order of Odd Fellows and Knights Of Pythias (Shining Star #235).

Elder John Earl Singleton was married 50 years to the late Ruby Scott-Singleton, and to this union children are: Marvin (Carolyn), Richard, Melissa (Leroy), Dianne, Theresa of Bishopville, Ralph of Sumter, Lee (Diana) of Columbia, Larry, Eddie (Zebina) of Atlanta, Georgia, and one son, Graylin, who preceded him in death; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Geneva Jackson of Sumter, Amelia Prescott of Florida and Elizabeth Martin of Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Laura Lee Singleton of Sumter and Martha Scott of Saginaw, Michigan; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 75 Manville-St. Charles Road, Bishopville, and at 708 Chapman St., Bishopville..

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday from the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Ralph J. Singleton, officiating, eulogist.

Procession will leave at 10:20 a.m. from 708 Chapman St., Bishopville.

Burial will be in the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church USA Cemetery, 4620 Queen Chapel Road, Dalzell.
