JOHN MICHAEL MASLANKO
John Michael Maslanko, age 76, beloved husband of Karen Elaine Harrell Maslanko, died on Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of the late Steven and Maria Pipoly Maslanko. Mr. Maslansko retired from the U.S. Air Force and was a life member of Sumter VFW Post 3034. He enjoyed traveling and trying new foods and beverages as well as bowling and playing darts. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Karen, are two sons, Otis "Buck" McLeod (Rhonda) of Barnwell and David Lackey of Michigan; three daughters, Liz Belsole, Debra Nowakowski (Robert) and Dale Rygalski (Tom), all of Sumter; two stepchildren, Kristal Johnson (Scott Connelly) of Reevesille and Rocky Thornhill (Angie) of Sumter; one son-in-law, Wesley McCathern of Sumter; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosa Hudson McLeod Maslanko; daughter, Louise McCathern; grandson, Jason McCathern; and one son-in-law, Randy Galloway.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Sumter Cemetery with full military honors.
The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Bullock Funeral Home.
