John Ward Jr., widower of Maggie Marie Hunter Spencer Ward, was born on May 7, 1944, in Georgetown County, to the late John Sr. and Cecil Woodberry Ward. He departed this earthly life on Monday, July 8, 2019, at his residence.

He graduated from Howard High School in 1962. Upon graduation, he moved to Harlem, New York, to live with his sister, Sarah, and was employed with Quality Printing. Later, he began working at New York Housing Authority, from where he retired. John attended St. Luke Baptist Church in Harlem, New York, and after returning to South Carolina, he became affiliated with High Hills Missionary Baptist Church.

His memory will be cherished by his sweet daughter, Shanteen V. (Lazaro) Ward-Morales of Hampton, Virginia; his beloved son, Stefon J. (Gloria) Ward of Atlanta; siblings, Sarah Johnson, Helen Collins and Charles Ward; three aunts, Minnie B. Long of Jacksonville, Florida, Catherine (Lewis) Stephens of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Nellie Baldwin of Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by two sisters, Alithia Horry and Earnestine Dones; and a brother, Joseph Ward.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Ward will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at High Hills Missionary Baptist Church, 6750 Meeting House Road, Dalzell, SC 29040 with Pastor Donald Amis officiating and the Rev. Willie Wright, eulogist. Interment will follow at High Hills Church Cemetery.

The family will be receiving friends at the home.
