LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia - Johnnie Lee Player "PeeWee" Corley, retired CCRN, 80, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, entered into peaceful rest on Sept. 4, 2022, of an apparent attack at her home surrounded by family. Johnnie is survived by William C. "Buddy" Corley Jr.; loving daughter, Tessie Michelle "Shelli" Newman of Lawrenceville, Georgia; sister, Tessie Player Wagner of Gainesville, Georgia; step-children, Melinda Lynn Corley Knyff and her husband, Bobby, of Flowery Branch, Georgia; William C. "Chip" Corley III and his wife, Stephanie, of Hoschton, Georgia; two granddaughters, Peyton SaraMarie Corley and Reagan Addison Corley; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Johnnie was born in Sumter on Oct. 6, 1941, to John Russell Player and Bessie Lee Hudson Player. She was a 1959 graduate of Mayewood High School in Sumter and a 1979 graduate of Dekalb College Nursing School. Right after graduating, she went to work with Dekalb Medical Center until 2003 in critical care. In 2004 until 2017, when she retired, Johnnie served as a nursing supervisor at the New Horizon Nursing Home in Gainesville, Georgia. She served as the softball commissioner of Gwinnett County back in the late '70s when Shelli was playing softball. She loved to play bridge and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. She will be deeply missed by her adoring family and "Hootie," her pet dog companion, and don't forget the kitties, "Gurley" and "Matilda."

It was Johnnie's request to be cremated and her remains to be scattered at Myrtle Beach.

A memorial service will be announced at a later time and date.
