Johnnie Mae McIntyre Rouse, 92, was born on Oct. 26, 1927, in Pender County, North Carolina, to the late David and Katie Hill McIntyre. She departed this life on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, in Baltimore, Maryland.

She attended Pender County Training School until the 10th grade. She met her future husband, the late Bill Rouse, in Wilmington, North Carolina, in 1944. They later married and to this union 10 children were born. Johnnie Mae and Bill moved to Baltimore in 1946, where they made a home and raised their family. Johnnie Mae was truly multifaceted, a woman of many talents. Professionally, she worked as a domestic, a sales rep for Lucky Heart Cosmetics and at the Baltimore Canning Co. in Fell's Point, Maryland. After her husband, Bill, retired in 1985, she returned to his home of Lynchburg and established a second residence. Lynchburg was no different. She welcomed, entertained and fed everyone just as she had in Baltimore.

She is survived by her sons, William (Janet) McIntyre, James (Gail) Rouse, Chris and Walter Rouse; daughters, Katie (Clover) Maycock, Audrey Ann (Sammie) Greene, Delphine (Clifton) Carter and Janet Rouse; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
