JOHNNY PRINGLE JR.

Johnny Pringle Jr., 87, was born on July 26, 1933, in Sumter. He departed this life on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter.

Mr. Pringle retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of honorable service as a senior medical specialist and surgical technician. He managed the Sumter School District 17 Print Shop. He was also the athletic director for Sumter Parks and Recreation Department (PARD). He was the owner of Superior Printing, where he provided printing services to many churches and local businesses and trained others in the printing profession.

He was an active member of the NAACP and an avid community leader, working to improve the conditions on the Southside of Sumter. He served as the co-chair of the initiative to establish Sumter's Southside Community Center. He worked with youth for many years as a baseball coach, Boy Scout leader and mentor. He was a member of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church and served as a trustee. His hobbies included traveling, photography and working on vehicles.

He will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by his son, John Kevin Pringle; his daughter, Sheila Pringle Darrell; his sister, Agnes Spencer; his nieces and nephews, friends and other members in the community. He leaves a legacy of what is possible with hard work and determination for his grandchildren: Kevin Christopher Ewing Darrell, Lauren Alyssa Sheila Jones, Morgan Elizabeth Pringle and John Kevin Pringle II.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Jay Pringle; his parents, Johnny Pringle Sr. and Ruth Anderson Pringle; his brothers, Benjamin Franklin Hilton Pringle, John Pringle, Josh Pringle, Mark Pringle, Thomas Pringle and Wash Pringle; and his sisters, Bessie Brown, Elizabeth Pringle, Priscilla Moses and Sallie McWilliams.

Public viewing will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday at Sumter Funeral Service.

The family will celebrate the life of Mr. Pringle at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, SC 29150 with Pastor Marion H. Newton officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. daily at the home, 4 Roosevelt Circle, Sumter, SC 29150. All visitors are required to wear facial masks.
