Posted

Judith Lee Edwards Galloway, 77, widow of Harold Everette Galloway, died on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Born on June 15, 1945, in Hartsville, she was a daughter of the late Albert Eli Edwards and Mary Ella Horton Edwards. Growing up, she lived in McBee. She moved to Sumter when she married and has resided here since. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed collecting cookbooks and trying out different recipes. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan. She was a hard worker and was employed for more than 30 years with Wards Bar-B-Que, before retiring in 2000. She never met a stranger and was a kind, gentle and loving mama, sister and friend. She was a devoted mama and, as a single parent, she always strove to give her children the things she didn't have and encouraged them to reach their full potential. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include two children, Mark Galloway and Angela Galloway, both of Sumter; one sister, Ann Ousley of McBee; one brother, Bobby Edwards (Hattie) of McBee; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Edwards; and two sisters, Betty Snead and Sue Jordan.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Wayne McElveen.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. James Ingram, Dr. Dennis Lang, Dr. Richard Huneycutt and their respective staff, and the Prisma Health Tuomey teams on 2 West and ICU for their care.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
