Kathryn Virginia Brunson Harrington, 87, widow of John Edward "J.E." Harrington Sr., died Friday, July 12, 2019, at the home of her granddaughter in Columbia.

Born June 29, 1932, in the Davis Station community of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Hugh Stephen Brunson and the late Adelaide Viola Barrineau Brunson. Mrs. Harrington was a member of Northside Memorial Baptist Church. In her childhood she was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and later Midway Presbyterian Church in New Zion. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include four children, John Edward Harrington Jr. (Christine) of the Philippines, Mary Louise Harrington Welsh (Ronald) of Sumter, and Steve M. Harrington (Albert Little) and Herman Calvin Harrington both of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Laura Welsh-Davidson (Robert), Sherry Welsh, Desiree Harrington (Red), John Travis Harrington (Charlotte), Carla Cannon, Calvin Harrington, and Kathryn Wicker (Isaac); five great grandchildren, Hailey Morris, Ian Davidson, Adelaide Gann, Colton Gann and Elysia Wicker; two brothers, the Rev. Ashley Carlyle Brunson (Daisy) of Cades, and Raymond Brunson of Greenwood; two sisters, Gladys Griffin of Manning, and Agnes Pittman of Cayce; a special caregiver, JoAnn Scriven of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four children, Kathryn Pearl Harrington, Clara Louise Harrington, John Hugh Harrington and Robert Allen Harrington; and two brothers, Hugh Stephen "Rick" Brunson Jr., and John Deward Brunson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Neal Sweet officiating. Burial will be in the Midway Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
