Khalif Bilal Patterson was born on July 25, 1980, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Valerie Denise Patterson and Kevin Keith McGriff.

Khalif was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Omar Patterson; sister, Katrice Gillespie-Sykes; grandparents, Josh and Delores Alston and Fred and Mattie McGriff; and great-grandmothers, Emma Hand and Louise Alston.

On Tuesday, March 12, 2019, a bright light in the lives of many was dimmed with the sudden passing of Khalif in McDonough, Georgia.

Khalif leave to cherish his memory: six sisters, Marquitta Gillespie, Valerie Patterson, Mieka Gillespie, Keierra McGriff, Tynasia Harrison and Zahkeia Herring; four brothers, Kevin Gillespie, Marques McGriff, Frederick Harrison and Terelle Harrison; nine nephews; nine nieces; four aunts, Helen (Jimmy) Stokes, Ebony Neal, Amina Judge and Darlene Drinkard; four uncles, Winthrop (Eather) McGriff, Abdul "Reese" Daniels, Matin Judge and Batin Judge; aunts and uncles / surrogate parents, Michelle (Marlon) Fedd, Adrien (Tony) Evans, Josh (Linda) Alston and Andre (Melissa) Ramseur; stepmother, Rosie Gillespie; grandfather, Maurice Crowley; special companion, Shaniyah Reason; special auntie, "His Christine" Hopkins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, 803 S. Harvin St., Sumter, with Marion H. Newton, pastor, and Pastor Adeira Black officiating. Interment will follow at Sand Hills Cemetery, Rembert.

A public viewing will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. today at the mortuary.

The family is receiving friends at 7985 Camden Highway, Rembert.
