Bishopville - The Crestwood Knights varsity volleyball team improved to 7-0 on the season with a 3-0 sweep of Lee Central on Tuesday night.

The Knights swept Lee Central at home in their season opener back on Aug. 26, and completed the season sweep with the victory on Tuesday.

“We’re a scrappy team,” said Crestwood head coach April Myers. “We made a few mistakes that cost us some points, but overall I think I our team played really well tonight.”

Crestwood opened with a dominant first set, defeating the Stallions 25-9. The Knights are led by eight seniors, including outside hitter Ashanti Washington who was especially impressive in the contest.

“Our seniors made a huge impact in the game,” said Myers. “They’ve been our strength this season.”

Myers then went to her bench for the second and third sets in an attempt to ensure the entire team is ready when the schedule gets more intense with regional play beginning next week.

“I figured we’re going to need some people to step in some of our tougher matches, so I wanted to play some of the players that haven’t seen the floor as much.

The team responded to the challenge, taking the second set 25-14, and the third set 25-15.

Crestwood will travel to Scott’s Branch on Thursday (Sept. 12) for their next game.
