Rebecca Dinkins scored the only run on an RBI double by Carson Shannon. Dinkins also finished with a hit, and Alex White had a double. REL finished the year with a 9-11 record.
On Friday at Patriot Park, the Lady Cavaliers lost to Marlboro Academy 12-0 before beating Carolina Academy 10-6 in nine innings.
Dinkins was 2-for-2 with a walk against Marlboro and Shannon had REL's only other hit of the game.
The Lady 'Cavs second game was likely Patriot Park's game of the day. The game was tied 4-4 at the end of seven innings, necessitating the use of an international tiebreaker rule by which teams start an inning with a runner on second base. REL, the designated visiting team, put up two runs in its half of the eighth before Carolina answered with two in its half, forcing another extra frame.
The Lady 'Cavs opened the ninth with Emily Watson on second base. A Dinkins groundout sent Watson to third and Watson would then come home on a Charley Grace Norris double to right. Shannon then delivered a triple to centerfield that Plated Norris. A Clara Ann Kelly single brought Shannon home and Kelly would score the game's final run on an Alex White sacrifice fly to left.
Dinkins closed 2-for-5 with an RBI while Charley Grace Norris, Shannon and Clara Ann Kelly had two hits apiece. Norris had a single, double, three runs and an RBI. Shannon's final batting line included a double, triple, two runs scored and one RBI while Kelly had a single, double, two runs and two RBI.
Thomas Sumter Academy went 0-2 in the SCISA 2A state tournament on Friday at Palmetto Park.
The Lady Generals, who finish the year with a 4-12 record, lost to Pee Dee Academy 7-4. They then lost to Thomas Heyward Academy 7-2 in an elimination game.
In the loss to Pee Dee, Josie Reed, Sydney Daniel and Carmen Silvester had two hits apiece for TSA. Daniel scored twice and Silvester drove in two runs.
Riley DeLavan and Cassidy Brunson both had a hit and an RBI.
In the THA loss, Reed had two doubles and two RBI.
