Sumter High School’s varsity girls basketball team improved to 9-1 with a 48-39 victory over Carver High School (Montgomery, AL) in the first round of the CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational in Myrtle Beach on Thursday.

Sumter High School’s varsity girls basketball team improved to 9-1 with a 48-39 victory over Carver High School (Montgomery, AL) in the first round of the CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational in Myrtle Beach on Thursday.

Junior forward Layken Cox and senior guard Tamerah Brown each notched double-doubles for the Lady Gamecocks. Brown scored 16 points on three made three-pointers while adding 10 rebounds. Cox notched 14 points and 12 rebounds, and eighth-grader Kiara Croskey scored 10 points while collecting seven steals.

Sumter will face either North Myrtle Beach or Parkview (GA) at 3:15 p.m. on Friday (Dec. 20) in round two of the tournament.
