LAWRENCE BUTLER JR.

Lawrence Butler Jr., 61, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, in Rockville, Maryland.

Born on July 9, 1957, in Sumter County, he was a son of the demised Lawrence Butler Sr. and Martha Mack Butler of Dalzell. Lawrence was baptized at an early age at Grant Hill Missionary Baptist, Rembert. He was a 1977 graduate of Hillcrest High School. He enlisted in the military shortly after high school. Upon retiring from the United States Army after serving 20 years, he lived in Fall Church, Virginia, where he was affiliated with several churches. He received several awards and recognitions as he served his country. He was later employed at Artel Inc. in Reston, Virginia, from 1998 to 2011 and Three Links Technologies Inc. in Silver Springs, Maryland, from 2011 to 2019.

He is survived by his mother, Martha Mack Butler of Dalzell; four brothers, Leroy of Rembert, Jerry of Dalzell, Eddie (Martha) of Winter Haven, Florida, and Wesley (Connie) of Myrtle Beach; two sisters, Mable of Dalzell and Rosemary of Sumter; a cousin reared in the home as a sister, Liz Taylor of Woodrow; one uncle, Jasper Mack (Estell) of Dalzell; four aunts, Marie Davis, Mary (Hayward) Jacob and Bernice Anderson, all of Sumter, Mary Anderson of Dalzell; a special aunt, Azalie Williams of East Orange, New Jersey; a grand uncle, Clifton Mack of Philadelphia; a grand aunt, Lourine Glover Mack of Dalzell; several nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends.

The family received relatives and friends at the home of his sister, 4760 Cannery Road, Dalzell.

Private Celebration of Life services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with Elder Clarence McCall officiating, eulogist.
