Lee Central High School commencement June 8

BISHOPVILLE - Lee Central High School's graduation ceremony will be held at 10 am. Saturday, June 8, in the gymnasium of Lee Central Middle School for 146 students.

The Class of 2019 has nearly $12.8 million in college scholarships, not including LIFE and HOPE funding. LCHS senior Juanita Hickmon has received the most with nearly $1.5 million in scholarships. Others with substantial aid are Shakira Brailsford, De'ablo Halley, Amir Jackson and Kei'shan Scott. More than half of the graduating class will walk away with funding for their education.

Those graduating with honors (4.5 grade-point average or higher) are: David Botzer, Brailsford, Jackson, Destiny Johnson, Brittney Morant, Shakaila Pollard, Janyla Smith, Janise Spann, Courtney Wilson and Leroy Woods. Botzer is also valedictorian.

Fifty-six of those graduating have earned all of the required units at Lee Central Career and Technology Center garnering "completers" status, and four students have earned associate degrees from Central Carolina Technical College. Those students are Botzer, Brailsford, Jackson and Woods.

Eight LCHS students were among more than 1,500 high school seniors recognized by S.C. State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman recently for making a future commitment to the U.S. military or to a military academy. Morant earned the highest score on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test.

The youngest graduate of the 2019 class is Chayna Scarborough.

Senior Class Night is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, in the LCHS gymnasium. LCMS' eighth grade promotion ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, June 6, in the school's cafeteria. The last day of school is Friday, June 7, and students will be dismissed early.
