A woman is facing DUI charges after a Lee County man was fatally struck by a vehicle in Sumter on Saturday.

Cinderetha Toney, 44, was arrested and faces one count of felony driving under the influence involving death and one count of hit and run, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol and Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center inmate search.

Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins said the driver of a 2010 Ford Edge hit a pedestrian on Trinity Road in Lynchburg on Feb. 23 about 5 p.m.

Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker confirmed the pedestrian's identity as 64-year-old Freddy Nance.

Nance died at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence from injuries he sustained in the collision, Baker said. An autopsy was performed Monday at MUSC in Charleston, and Nance's next of kin has been notified.

Bond was denied for Toney.

The incident remains under investigation by the highway patrol.
