A Lee County man, known to have brain damage, has been missing since Christmas, and his family is worried for his safety.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office posted a missing person's report via Facebook on Dec. 28, 2021, for 44-year-old John Dubose, last seen on Christmas day in the 1800 block of Hubb Kelly Road.

Donna Burkett, Dubose's mother, said he was a resident at a long-term care facility in Lee County. She brought him to her daughter's home in Bishopville to celebrate the holidays, but Dubose left the house shortly after they arrived. There have been no sightings of him since, she said.

"Normally when he takes off like this, we find him within hours or maybe a day; the police will pick him up walking. But nobody has seen him this time," Burkett said. "I am kind of afraid that he made it to the truck stop coming out of Bishopville and maybe got in with a truck driver."

The sheriff's office said Dubose has been known to catch rides to the Sumter area. If you see him or know of his whereabouts, contact the local authorities or call the Lee County Sheriff's Office at (803) 484-5353.
