Lee County schools starting late Friday amid snow, black ice forecast

Lee County School District will operate on a two-hour delay on Friday, Feb. 21, in anticipation of potential overnight snowfall and black ice.

Temperatures will drop below freezing over much of the Midlands just after it stops raining Thursday. According to the National Weather Service, that is a recipe for black ice, and anyone driving or walking outside Thursday night and early Friday morning should be cautious.

Little or no snow accumulation is expected in the tri-county area. It is expected to rain through 3 a.m. before a chance of rain and snow begins.

Friday is forecasted to be partly sunny then gradually become sunny with a high near 43. It will drop back below freezing on Friday night with a low around 27.

The weekend should be clear ahead of a likelihood of rain again on Monday.
