Students at Lemira Elementary School revved up National School Breakfast Week by completing coloring, hashtag creations, picture graph representations and acrostic and haiku writings. In addition, students participated in a school-wide poll where they voted on their favorite breakfast items. First place went to chicken and waffles. The week-long celebration culminated with an over-the-top celebration that epitomized the week's theme "Start Your Engines!" The Lemira Percussion Ensemble and the Lemira Golden Steppers entertained the crowd. Students also had the opportunity to visit with race car drivers Tony Coker and James and Jared Murphy, and they were able to look inside Mater (J&J Towing) race cars and ask questions about their designs and the sport of racing. Students were also able to get advice from chef Chuck Asher and dietitian Kelly Hill from Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital on making healthy choices and cooking. Students Jalen Gladden and Angel Parrot won racing-themed gift baskets as part of the finale. Cafeteria Manager Ms. Davis and her staff provided an amazing week of fun and learning. Prisma Health Tuomey, community sponsors and volunteers made the week memorable.
