Leo Halley Jr.,  88, departed this life on Friday, Aug. 2, 2019, at Covenant Place skilled nursing facility in Sumter. 

Born Jan. 4, 1931, in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late Leo Sr. and Harriet Missouri Halley.  Leo’s early Christian education began at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, Camden. After his return from New York, he returned to St. Matthew, where he faithfully attended, until his health began to fail.  He was educated in the public schools of South Carolina and New York City.  After a flourishing career with the New York City Transit, he retired in the mid 1990s and relocated to Sumter, where he lived until his death. 

 He leaves to cherish his memories:  two daughters, Harriet McNeill and Wilhelmina Bryant-Forbes of  New York; three sisters, Frances (Simon) Bolden of Upper Marlboro, Maryland,  Dorothy Halley of Rembert and Ruth (Dele) Omonijo of Camden;  two brothers,  Sam Halley of Camden and Lawrence (Iola) Halley of Lugoff;  12 grandchildren;  22 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home,  305 Kendal Ave., Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the John Wesley Williams  Sr.  Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with Pastor Jerry L. Dicks officiating and Pastor Willie Dennis,  eulogist.

The procession will leave at 10:20 a.m. from the home.
