Leona V. Davis, 88, was born on March 16, 1931, in Bronson, Florida, the second oldest of seven siblings born to the late Willie Guy and Mattie Lee Gray Guy Brown. Mother Davis departed this life on Thursday, June 20, 2019.

Mother Davis was employed by Campbell Soup Co. as a food processor, until her retirement in the summer of 1991. Mother Davis was a great woman of faith, loving the Lord and his holy word. At an early age, she received the Lord as her personal Savior. She was a lifetime member of the Church of God by Faith Inc., where she served on the usher board, choir, as a Sunday school teacher and a mother of the church. Mother Davis also served beside her husband as first lady at the Church of God by Faith in Florence and Church of God by Faith in Orangeburg.

Mother Davis was united in holy matrimony to David Davis on Dec. 9, 1951. To this union, seven children were born.

She leaves to cherish her beloved memory: seven children, Buster Davis, Betsy Davis Brown, David Davis, Barbara Davis Martin, Dorothy Davis McCall, Charles Davis and Rowena Davis; eight grandchildren, Teresa Marshall, Kevin Brown, Carleston Brown II, Sharon McCall, Christopher McCall, Serita Burroughs, Jarrod Davis and Chad Davis; four great-grandchildren, Ty Marshall, Evan Marshall, Kai Brown and Noah Brown; two sisters, Annette McBride and Mary Sapp; three brothers, Willie Guy Jr., Harold Brown and Jonathan Brown; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mother Davis was preceded in death by her youngest sister, Dolly Brown Bell; and one brother, Areal Guy.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mother Davis will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. on Wednesday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, SC 29150 with Elder Wayne Brunson officiating and Elder Andre McBride, eulogist.

Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from noon to 5 p.m. at the home, 102 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, SC 29150.

Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.
