Letter: How can Black Christians support Democratic ideas?

Posted

I have debated with myself about writing on this issue. The following comments have the potential to cost me thousands of dollars in fees, but I must write. To sit on the sidelines is the coward's way out. This letter is addressed to my fellow Black Christians. Most of you are life-long Democrats who would not dare think of voting Republican. But I say unto you, how can you continue to vote Democratic as they cling to the beliefs that abortion and same-sex marriage are OK. How can we support a party where one of its leaders said, "Laws have to be backed up with resources and political will, and deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed." This was taken from the keynote speaker address delivered April 23, 2015, at the annual Women in the World Summit in New York. She is saying those of us who do not believe as she does must change their beliefs. But. How can we go against what The Most High commands?

I hear much talk of women's reproduction rights. What about the baby in the womb's rights? This child is a human being and not a blob of tissue as the scientific word fetus would imply. Your pastor may call the baby a fetus, but it does not change the fact that it is a baby. The Most High told Jeremiah: Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. (Jeremiah 1:5) Our Father did not ordain a blob of tissue but a real person. He also called Persian King Cyrus by name over 100 years before Cyrus was born. (Isaiah 45:1-5) The Bible tells us even Jesus our Savior was prophesied of thousands of years before He was born. Abortion is murder, plain and simple, always has been and always will be, no way around it. Yes, ladies, you do have rights over your body, but your rights stop where The Most High has decreed life. What you and the men who support abortions really want is sexual rights without having to worry about the results of a baby being born. You may think this is not fair, but this is the way The Creator of all life has determined it to be.

Any marriage outside of the male and female union is not marriage in the eyes of The Most High. Jesus said in Matthew 19:1-5, He made them male and female. This is the only acceptable combination allowed in the Christian church. He made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve or nor did He make Eve and Louise. The LGBTQ folks have rights. Their rights are the same as everyone else. They really want sexual rights also, even though The Most High said it is SIN.

So, I ask again, can born-again Christians (Christ followers) willfully support the platform of any group that would willfully and intentionally disregard the commands of The Most High (I am not saying the Republicans keep all the commands either). The Bible says not to be partakers of other people's sins (1 Timothy 5:22). We must follow The Most High, even when it causes us to suffer (1 Peter 2:20-21). We do not have the option to pick and choose which commands we are going to obey. Psalm 100:3 - Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Now I know the Republican party has allowed a racist element to usurp its platform and Black as a whole will not get a fair deal within our ranks. But remember this: there were Blacks who were killed after the Civil War because they were card carrying Republicans. Abraham Lincoln, a Republican, sacrifice thousands of white soldiers on the battlefield to obtain the end of slavery and our freedom. We must demand a true seat at the Republican table.

This world is not our home. We are to be like Abraham (Hebrews 11:5-16), we are pilgrims temporarily assign to this world. Should we vote? If possible, yes. But we must always vote on the side of The Most High (Joshua 24:14-15). This should not be a tough decision, so do not make it one. I know there's great Democratic theologians reading this who will try to shoot holes in what I have said. They appear to be angels of light but are angels of darkness (2 Corinthians 11:13-15). Just remember these last two verses Colossians 3:17 - And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Ecclesiastes 12:14 - For God shall bring every work into judgement, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
