Letter to the Editor: For a moral world, there needs to be more adherence to God's teachings

The word "fool" or one of its derivatives is used frequently in the Bible. My parents taught me as a child not to call anyone a fool. However, God calls some people fools and some actions foolish. The word is translated from the Greek word "moria" (without logic). We get our English word "moron" from this Greek word. I'm not sure if "moron" is any kinder than "stupid," but they both describe the foolish thinking of many people today. God created two genders. Everyone in the world since the creation of Adam and Eve has known this until recently when too many fools have voiced their ignorance (Maybe that's a kinder word than fool or stupid).

Let me give some examples from what we have read or heard in the news recently. Some people believe men can become pregnant - foolish. I saw recently where feminine products were required to be placed in the men's restroom - foolish. Even my last sentence is offensive to some fools because "feminine" and "men" are not gender neutral. In some states, when a baby is born the mother (or "birthing person" as she must be called) has more than two choices for identifying the gender of the baby - foolish. Then there are those (even in leadership positions) who cannot define what a woman is. Helen Reddy would be appalled. (See her song "I Am Woman" from 1971 if that name is unknown to you.) This morning I heard of a junior high boy in Wisconsin who was disciplined at his school for sexual harassment because he used the wrong pronoun to refer to a girl. She wanted to be called "them" or "they" (which is grammatically wrong as well) - foolish.

It is a sad and seemingly hopeless situation when we have people with no logic (moria) governing our states and nation. They have a depraved, "man-centered" ideology. The Bible says, "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Proverbs 9:10). Without that "fear of the Lord" one has no beginning of true wisdom. James, in his epistle, describes worldly wisdom as contrasted with true, Biblical wisdom. He says, "This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish" (James 3:15). It is thinking with no logic - moronic, foolish, stupid, even devilish!

The mind is an amazing thing that God has created. The mind is a terrible thing to waste, and Satan certainly attacks God and the principles of His Word by working in people's minds to get them to think and believe contrary to what our Creator has clearly stated. Mark 12:30 says, "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment." One cannot love the Lord with his mind and believe nonsense that is contrary to God's Word. "For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be" (Romans 8:6-7).

Mark Twain is credited with saying, "It is easier to fool people than it is to convince them that they have been fooled." Jesus said, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:32) Some people don't want to hear truth, so they simply ignore it. Some people attack the character of those who speak the truth, or they try to silence them. People need the truth of God's Word so they can think with logic. When God's Word is ignored and cast away, the only result will be moria (foolishness). For a society to live in a moral (and logical) world, there needs to be more adherence to God's teachings and more rejection of this world's vain way of thinking.
