Letter to the editor: Our country will never pay off our $28.43 trillion debt

Posted

This letter is in reference to Wallie Jones' letter on Sept. 23, 2021. I hope that you read it.

He is talking about "free everything that is given to people who have not earned it by working for it." Some people think that they have earned it by having lots of babies. Some people think that they have earned it because they don't feel like working. I can come up with a lot more reasons, but then I would hurt some people's feelings. Oh yea, lawyers can make some people rich because of their own foolishness and actions.

Unless things change drastically, "the hard working people who are a shrinking breed" will not be enough to take care of those who "complain" because they aren't getting enough free stuff. I predict it will all come to a head and happen within the next three-and-a-half years.

We are so close to not even being able to pay the principal of our national debt. (Principal only means payments - are a way to potentially shorten the length of a loan and save on interest.) According to www.nytimes.com from two days (Sept. 28, 2021) ago, our national debt now stands at $28.43 trillion. The Peter G. Peterson Foundation's live tracker provided that information.

I did my best to find out how long it would take to pay off that debt if we never borrowed any more money (HA HA). Maybe someone can figure it out. Of course, anyone with a brain knows that isn't going to happen in America today. With all the world flooding our borders, with all the free handouts, with government paying people not to work, must I go on, where does that leave our country? We will never pay that debt off.

What happens when China calls in the loan? (A call loan is a loan that the lender can demand to be repaid at any time.) How are we going to pay them? Goodbye USA. That will be the end of all the free stuff. We will become their slaves. Can I say that?

Now I know that half the country doesn't know this, so it's going to be interesting to see what happens. I am almost 77 years old, so I hope that I get all of my "free stuff" before I die. Good luck, America. I hope that half of our country is still happy with the way things are going and who they voted for.
