Letter to the editor: Thanks for community support of Sumter's inaugural Juneteenth celebration

Posted

The Sumter Black Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the community of Sumter for its sponsors, donations and its members who helped make Sumter's official inaugural Juneteenth celebration a historic day of success! The event, initially planned as a weekend celebration, was shortened to a fundraising gala only due to COVID-19 concerns and public safety.

Sponsors, partners and Sumter Black Chamber of Commerce members who were involved in the event at some capacity include: Brunson Law Firm, Tegrant Consulting, Sanders Fine Portraits of Charleston, Sumter County Cultural Commission, Kay Diamonds Majorette, S.O.F.T., Silimon Solutions, Harler Trophy Shop, the Rev. Blassingame and First Missionary Baptist Church.

The event would not have taken place without your love, support and concerns for African-American arts, culture and history. We look forward to presenting our complete program to the community at the 2022 Sumter Juneteenth celebration!

Special thanks to our event host, Morris College Professor Herbert Johnson. May your love for the arts and culture continue to bless our community.
