LEXINGTON (AP) - Authorities say police have shot and killed a man who held a gun to a woman's head and stole her car in South Carolina.

Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said his deputies told him as the man fired at officers early Friday, he said they were going to have to kill him.

Koon said in a video posted to Twitter that the man fired on officers as he ran into the home from the stolen vehicle and kept pointing the gun at deputies until he was shot.

Koon says one deputy was injured after being bitten by a dog.

Koon says there were three other people at the home at risk, and he thinks the deputies made the right decision.

The man's name hasn't been released.
