LILLIE MAE EVANS THOMPSON

Posted

LYNCHBURG - Lillie Mae Evans Thompson, affectionately known as "Sister," was born on Oct. 28, 1938, in Lynchburg, to the late Elijah P. and Hattie G. Evans. She transitioned peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Lillie Mae was briefly married to Randolph Thompson.

She received Christ at an early age at King Emmanuel Baptist Church and later joined Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in the usher ministry and senior choir. She loved the Lord, loved and adored her family as well as her church family. She had a radiant smile and loved to laugh. To know her was to love her. Her presence will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by five brothers, Robert, Timothy, Samuel, David and Joseph Evans; and two sisters, Estell Logan and Jane Evans.

Left to cherish fond memories are a devoted daughter, Emma (Edward) Hicks; two granddaughters, Sabrina Broomfield and Shaquandra Hicks; two great-grandsons, Tyler and Davin Broomfield; a brother, Harry (Rebecca) Evans Sr.; a special nephew she helped to rear, Harry (Beverly) Evans Jr.; a sister-in-law, Annie Mae Evans; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Special thanks to her dedicated caregiver, Michelle Durant.

A homegoing celebration will be conducted at noon on Friday at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Sammie D. Simmons, senior pastor, eulogist. Burial will follow at Bethesda Memorial Cemetery.

She will lie in repose one hour prior to the service.

Public viewing will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel.

Jefferson Funeral Home Service Inc is in charge of arrangements.
