The American Legion baseball season doesn't officially begin until next week, but the Sumter P-15's, Manning-Santee Post 68 and the Dalzell-Shaw Jets will be getting a preseason tune-up this weekend.

Each of the three local teams will be participating in the annual preseason tournament hosted by Florence Post 1. While most of the tournament will be played in Florence, some games will be played at other locations.

The P-15's, coming off a 24-15 seasons in which they advanced to the Southeast Regional, will travel to Conway on Friday for a 7 p.m. contest against Horry. On Saturday, Sumter will play two games at South Florence High School, one against Camden beginning at 4 p.m. and the other against Manning beginning at 6:30.

The P-15's are scheduled to play a game on Sunday at a time and site to be determined.

Manning, which went 9-9 last season, will travel to Camden on Friday to face Post 17 at 7 p.m. Post 68 will take on Horry at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at South Florence before facing Sumter. Manning is scheduled to play on Sunday as well.

Dalzell, 1-15 last season, will take on Florence Post 1 on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Legion Field in Florence. Post 175 will play twice on Saturday at Legion Field, taking on Orangeburg at 1:30 p.m. and Aiken at 4 p.m. The Jets are scheduled for a Sunday game as well.

The regular season begins for all three teams on Tuesday. Sumter and Dalzell will face each other at Riley Park beginning at 7 p.m. Manning will travel to Orangeburg for its season opener beginning at 7 p.m.

The leagues have been revamped for this season with Sumter and Dalzell in League II, while Manning is in League I.

Sumter and Dalzell will be in a 6-team league along with Florence, Horry, Lake City and Murrells Inlet. Manning is in a 4-team league with Hampton, Orangeburg and Goose Creek.

There are three leagues in the lower state with League III including West Columbia, Aiken, Lexington and Camden. There are also three upper state leagues as well.
