LOYCE EARLENE HOGE

Posted

Loyce Earlene Fish Hoge, of Sumter, a native of Helena, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019.

Loyce is survived by her oldest son, Mike Hoge, his wife, Laura, and daughter-in-law, Ashley Hoge. She was coined "Grammy" by her four beloved grandchildren, Michal, Paisley, Cooper and Mary LeNoir Hoge. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Wayne Fish and his wife, Sue.

Loyce was preceded in death by her parents, Earl "Pete" and Hazel Fish; but she lost parts of her soul with the sudden passing of two children on separate occasions, daughter, Mary Ann, and son, Marshall.

Grammy lived life by her own rules. If it wasn't comfortable, she didn't wear it. If it didn't interest her, she didn't partake. If it involved home, she was happiest. She was a passionate mother, true to herself, and true to those she loved. Grammy's greatest pleasures were her grandchildren, her animals (especially her schnauzers she loved over the course of many years), chocolate, watching movies and television, drinking Coke and smoking Virginia Slims Superslims.

Loyce had a deep and hearty laugh she shared freely - and most especially - while watching movies and YouTube videos introduced to her by grandchildren. In healthier years, Grammy found pleasure in sharing her pool with others, playing tennis, planting flowers in her yard and decorating for the Christmas season. She believed "the more, the better," neither skimping out on love nor compromising on "low fat." She was a baker-extraordinaire, famous for her brownies and turning out abundant amounts of all delicious things she produced in her kitchen.

Loyce was to begin chemotherapy on Monday. In final tribute, she chose to do things her way and sneak home to reunite with Mary Ann and Marshall. Grammy will live on in our hearts, minds, thoughts, prayers and laughs forever.

A private service will be held at her family's farm in Oklahoma.

If you wish to memorialize Loyce, please do so by making a donation in her name to the Sumter SPCA, 1140 S. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.
