Luefenia Montgomery Glisson was born on Nov. 14, 1925, in Sumter, a daughter of the late Eugene and Lamb Budden Montgomery. She departed this life on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019, in the home at the very blessed age of 93.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late Herbert Lee Glisson Sr. From this union, they were blessed with seven beautiful children. Leufenia was a dedicated wife and devoted mother. Luefenia later joined her husband, Herbert, at Beulah UME Church, where she served faithfully in various capacities.

Luefenia was raised in Sumter, where she attended the public schools of Sumter County. Her ambition and desire to finish her education led her back to Ebenezer High School evening classes. There she received her diploma in 1970. For many years, Luefenia worked as the cafeteria manager at DeLaine Elementary and retired from Sumter School District 2, after 21 years of service.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: six daughters, Lue Richardson and Mary (Frank) Sanders, both of Sumter, Janet (Johnny) Williams of Columbia, Ivory Mitchell of Sumter, Estell (Emanuel) Moore of Fort Mill and Sarah (Lawrence) Smalls of Greensboro, North Carolina; one daughter-in-law, Ruby Glisson of Hopkins; a special nephew who lived in the home, LeRoy (Mary Ann) Glisson of Hopkins; two sisters, Ivory Benson and Earline Jones, both of Sumter; one brother, Eugene (Rebecca) Montgomery of Sumter; a special grandson, Frank "Derrick" Sanders of Columbia; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two former sons-in-law, Johnny Richardson and Clarence Mitchell; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
