MACKEY DESCHAMPS

Graveside services for Mackey Deschamps will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at New Hope Community Cemetery, Pinewood, with the Rev. Jose O. Lozano officiating.

The public may view from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Palmer Memorial Chapel.

Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Leon Deschamps and Henrietta Rhames Deschamps White. Mackey was married to the love of his life, Adraine Ruth Morris Deschamps, for more than 57 years.

Mr. Deschamps transitioned on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021, at McLeod Health Clarendon.

Reared by his mother and stepfather, Ransom White, he attended Clarendon County public schools. At an early age, he became a member of New Hope AME Church, where he served in many capacities, including trustee board, finance committee and choir member. He was also a member of Silver Lodge 35 and New Hope Royal Arch, Chapter 38, for more than 55 years. He retired from Madison Industries Inc. after 36 years of employment.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Shawn White; and sisters, Sandra White, Minnie Deschamps, Gardenia Charles and Deborah Goodwater.

Survivors are his wife, Adraine of the home; daughters, Carolyn (Patrick) Bennett and Doris (Ervin) White, both of Columbia; three grandchildren, Shante' Nicole (Warren) Scott, Kayla Bennett and Zana Bennett; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Darcus Richburg of Baltimore, Maryland, Gwendolyn Taylor of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Doris (James) Walker of Asheville, North Carolina; brothers, Roland White of Pinewood and Thurgood (Carolyn) White of Albany, Georgia; a host of in-laws, other relatives and friends.
