TAMPA, Fla. - Mae Alanda "Sugar" Jeffers, 92, of Wesley Chapel, Florida, lost a valiant fight with life as she passed away at home on Friday evening, June 28, 2019, surrounded by family.

Her Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Ave., Tampa. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, 2225 East Drive Martin Luther King Blvd., Tampa.

Sugar entered this world on June 3, 1927, in Greenville and was the oldest child of William "Bill" and Delilah Mae Turner. The family later relocated to Tampa, where her early education came from St. Peter Claver Catholic School and later at Don Thompson High School. After graduation from high school, she traveled to New York and attended fashion design school. Following design school, she worked briefly in the fashion industry in New York. After the fashion industry, she returned to Tampa, where she was wed and began her lifelong career as a renowned seamstress. She designed and produced custom outfits for the Omegas, Kappas, Deltas and AKAs and other socialites in and around the Tampa Bay area. A woman of many talents, Sugar was renowned for her Sunday dinners, including her exceptional fried chicken.

Sugar is survived by her three children, Lanness G. Robinson (Patricia) of Austin, Texas, William Jeffers of Jacksonville, Florida, and Delilah Solomon of Wesley Chapel, Florida; three grandchildren, Godfrey Robinson (Christine) of Wesley Chapel, Cedric L. Jeffers (Alesha) of Meridian, Mississippi, and Brittany Jeffers of Las Vegas, Nevada; two great-grandchildren, Jasmyn R. Robinson and Trey Robinson of Wesley Chapel; sister-in-law, Thelma Turner of Tampa; five nephews, James Ricks, William Turner, De'Andre Turner, Reginald Ricks and Michael Ricks; and six nieces, Selina Ross, Cecilia Ricks, Vanessa Turner, Alycia Honeyghon, Keanna Amerson and Mya Amerson.

Preceding Sugar in death are both mother and father, William and Delilah Mae Turner; her two brothers, Benny Edward Turner and William H. Turner Jr.; loving son-in-law, Freddie Solomon; nephews, Lavaughn Turner, Robert Ricks and Darryl Turner; niece, Lathel DeLaney; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The remains will repose from 10 a.m. until service time on Monday at Ray Williams Funeral Home, Tampa.
