Manning High School Symphonic Band, under the direction of Jordan D. Jefferson, recently received a Superior rating in the South Carolina Band Directors Association Concert Performance Assessment held at West Ashley High School. The ensemble received all 1s for its stage performance. This is Manning's first Superior rating at Concert Performance Assessment since 2000. Some of the students also are members of Monarch Connection Jazz Band, which received a Superior rating at Jazz Performance Assessment earlier this month. "We have made a continuous commitment to musical excellence in all areas, symphonic, jazz and concert. Music is the answer to the issues and problems we face in the world. Immersing students in a culture of music performance provides access and exposure to new possibilities," said Jefferson in a news release. Members of the group who are in the Golden Pride Marching Band will travel in May to Washington, D.C., to march in the National Memorial Day Parade. To support them, contact the school band office at (803) 825-5034.
