Manning High Golden Pride Marching Band to perform in National Memorial Day Parade

The National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C., will include some local talent.

The Manning High School Golden Pride Marching Band, under the direction of Jordan Jefferson, MHS Director of Bands and Choral Studies, are one of four South Carolina schools nominated by Congressman James Clyburn, the American Veterans Center and Music Celebrations International to perform.

"We are excited to receive this prestigious honor. It brings us great pleasure that we have been chosen to represent Manning High School, the City of Manning and Clarendon School District," said Jefferson. "Our students work hard and take music performance seriously on the stage, in performance assessments, in competitions and in parades. The Pride of I-95 has a long-standing tradition of musical excellence."

The parade will take place on Saturday, May 27, in the nation's capitol on Historic Constitution Avenue from 7th to 17th Street before a street audience of several hundred thousand spectators. It consists of musical ensembles from each military branch, invited bands from each state, veterans groups, military and specialty units, floats and VIPs. The parade is broadcast on Discovery's Military Channel and to American troops worldwide on the Pentagon Channel.
