Manning High School's Symphonic Band walked away from a Lowcountry competition last week with Excellent ratings in both stage performance and sight reading.

MHS' band participated in the South Carolina Band Director's Association Concert Performance Assessment competition that was held at West Ashley High School in Charleston. According to MHS Band Director Jordan Jefferson, MHS' Symphonic Band fared well in the two-part assessment that consisted of a stage performance with two prepared pieces of adequate grade level and a sight reading assessment where Jefferson had just six minutes to teach his band members a musical piece without them actually playing the piece. Next, the band had to perform the new piece before the event's judges.

Jefferson said that while he was proud of the progress that his students have made, he also plans to keeping pushing his students toward musical excellence.
