Funeral services for Manning Lee Brisbane will be held on Wednesday at Wayman Chapel AME Church, 160 N. Kings Highway, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Dennis W. Broughton Jr. officiating.

The public may view from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Palmer Memorial Chapel.

Manning L. Brisbane, 73, transitioned on Friday, April 26, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Born and educated in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Manning and Wilhelmina Murray Durant. He was also the husband of the late Gloria Jean Brisbane.

Manning Brisbane was employed by Montgomery County Public School System in the state of Maryland as a maintenance supervisor for more than 18 years. After relocating to Sumter, he attended Wayman Chapel AME Church. He was also a former member of Masonic Silver Lodge 35.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Gloria Jean Brisbane, he was preceded in death by a son, two sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include a son, Manning (Laronda) Durant Jr. of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; a daughter, a daughter of the heart, Jennifer (Antonio) Ray of Ellenwood, Georgia; a niece of the heart, Chastey (Bishop Anthony) Gibson; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four siblings, Carrie Campbell of Lovettsville, Virginia, Ossie (Audrey) Durant of Hampstead, North Carolina, Timothy (Rachiel) Durant of Hyattsville, Maryland, and William (Jean) Durant of District Heights, Maryland; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
