Manning man arrested on multiple drug charges

MANNING - A 35-year-old Manning man who was arrested Monday on multiple drug charges as well as a felon in possession of a gun charge was released from jail on bond just hours later.

According to Clarendon County Sheriff Tim Baxley and Manning Police Chief Keith Grice, Joshua Demond Coard was arrested by the Clarendon County Combined Narcotics Unit after a Manning Police Department officer, who was at Coard's business on West Boyce Street, the Pull In and Pull Out Car Wash, in reference to a business operating without a business license charge, noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the building.

The officer asked for assistance from the Narcotics Unit, which is comprised of officers from Manning Police Department and Clarendon County Sheriff's Office. The Narcotics Unit obtained a search warrant for the business and seized 38 grams of marijuana, 28 grams of crack cocaine, 13 grams of cocaine and one .22-caliber firearm.

Coard was arrested and charged with trafficking in crack cocaine, third offense; trafficking in cocaine, third offense; possession with intent to distribute marijuana, first offense; possession with intent to distribute marijuana within 1/2 mile of a school or park; possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine within 1/2 mile of a school or park; possession with intent to distribute cocaine within 1/2 mile of a school or park; and felon in possession of a handgun. After his arrest, Coard was transported to Clarendon County Detention Center.

Coard was released from the center later that day on an $8,000 surety bond.
