MANNING — A 33-year-old Manning man was killed about 4:40 a.m. Saturday in a vehicle versus pedestrian incident on M.W. Rickenbaker Road between Davis Station and Cambridge Road, according to Clarendon County Coroner Bucky Mock.

“Doane Pearson died at the scene from head trauma and multiple blunt-force trauma,” Mock said. “No autopsy will be conducted.”

According to Lance Cpl. Matt Southern with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a 2005 Ford Explorer was traveling north on M.W. Rickenbaker Road when it struck a pedestrian who was wearing dark clothing and walking south in the northbound lane of M.W. Rickenbaker Road. The lone occupant of the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, Southern added.

The incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
