Manning store owner faces 15 years for tax evasion

South Carolina Department of Revenue agents arrested a Clarendon County tobacco store owner on three counts of tax evasion Thursday after he allegedly under-reported gross store sales between 2014 and 2016.

Ibrahim Said, owner and operator of Express Discount Tobacco in Manning, evaded paying approximately $100,000 in state sales taxes after he failed to report approximately $1.2 million in gross sales for the business' monthly sales tax returns from 2014 to 2016, states a release from SCDOR. Said reported about $774,000 in gross sales when actual sales during that time amounted to a little more than $2 million.

Said is being held at Clarendon County Detention Center and faces fines up to $10,000 and/or a maximum of five years in prison for each count of tax evasion.

Manning Police Department assisted in the arrest.
