Marchel L. "Deputy Dog" Jefferson, 70, was born on May 24, 1950, in Borden, to the late Louis and Rosa Boykin-Jefferson. Marchel departed this life on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at Lexington Medical Center, Lexington.

Marchel worked various jobs during his lifetime. He was a deputy sheriff with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, drove trucks for Glasscock, Sumter Dairy, New South and Sumter Expediting. Marchel also worked many years at Dupont in Camden.

Marchel leaves to cherish his memories: one son, Michael Lee (Brenda) Bennett of Rembert; three sisters, Julia (Eddie) Wright of Mount Pleasant, Rosa (Everett) Bell of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Gladys (Herbert) Moore of Rembert; one brother, Louis (Delores) Boykin-Jefferson of Philadelphia; three grandchildren, all of Rembert; a host of nieces, one he raised as his own, Katurah (Johnny) Gause of Columbia; and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and special friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 5365 Mayrant Road, Rembert.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Joshua Baptist Churchyard Cemetery, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Eugene Dennis, pastor, officiating.

The procession will leave at 9:20 a.m. from the home.

Burial will follow at Elizabeth Cemetery, Borden Road, Rembert.
