Our beloved mother and grandmother, Margie Cooper, 91, died on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at home from natural causes.

Margie was born on Nov. 19, 1929, in Eastover, Richland County, the only child of the late Rosy Lee Whaley and Mr. Whaley. She was educated in the public school system in Eastover. In 1946, she married Willie Cooper. Their union gave birth to 10 children. She and her family relocated to New York City in 1962. Together they owned and operated a restaurant/candy store for several years. Later, Margie ventured into the textile industry, where she worked for more than 10 years.

Those left to cherish her memory are five sons, Eddie Cooper, Willie Cooper Jr., Barry Cooper, Bernard Cooper and Melvin Cooper; three daughters, Margie Lee Rambert, Beatrice Sumter and Mildred Joyner; 21 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, cousins, friends and loving neighbors.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitation at the home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. Richard Berry officiating.

Visitation will be held from 2 until 6 p.m. on Sunday at John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter.

Funeral procession will leave from the home at 10:20 a.m.

Burial will be held at Red Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 720 Congaree Road, Gadsden.
