Mariah D. S. Murray, 99, widow of Henry Murray, was born on Aug. 2, 1919, in Sumter County to the late Jefferson and Julia Ann Pearson Dwyer. She departed this life to be with her heavenly father on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, in Sumter.

Mrs. Murray distinguished herself as a Christian during her youth and was a faithful member of Damascus Baptist Church. She later joined St. Matthews Baptist Church where she served on the Missionary Board and as a member of the Senior Choir and Deliverance Choir.

She leaves to cherish her memories four children, Mary Lou Smith of Brooklyn, New York, and Dorothy (Hercules) Sharper, Shirley Blair and Hazel (Dewitt) Clark, all of Sumter; 25 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 1 to 8:30 p.m. at the home, 4720 Huckabee Road, Sumter.

Celebration of life services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Greater Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 515 N. Main St., Sumter, with Dr. Marvin Hodge, pastor, and Pastor Isaac Johnson, eulogist.

The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. for viewing until time of service.

The funeral procession will leave from the home at 1:20 p.m.

Burial will be in the Bradford Cemetery.
