MANNING - Martha DuBose Smith, 81, wife of William Rudolph "Rudy" Smith, died on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020, at The Newport in Newport News, Virginia.

Born on Oct. 24, 1938, in Crenshaw County, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Homer Wilson DuBose and Edna Kennedy DuBose. Martha was a member of Manning First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a leader of the Women's Missionary Union. She was also involved with the WMU at the state level, volunteered with the Mental Health Association, earned her real estate license to practice in Manning and was an avid tennis player. Martha loved being surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years of Hampton, Virginia; three children, Karen Poplin (Gary) of Hampton, Kathy Woodbury (Greg) of Greenwood and Daniel Smith (Laura) of Savannah, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Poplin (Holly), Melody Walk (Rob), Ben Woodbury (Rhealyn), Matt Woodbury, Drew Poplin (Anna), Will Smith and Walker Smith; three great-grandchildren, Eliza Walk, Deacon Woodbury and Reagan Woodbury; and a sister, Diane Brunner (Roger) of Washington.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Rob Pierce officiating.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 1 to 3 p.m. at Stephens Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at noon on Sunday at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road, Charleston, with the Rev. Greg Woodbury officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, 4200 N. Point Parkway, Alpharetta, GA 30022.
