If you are a teenager or know a teenager interested in the healthcare profession, McLeod Health Clarendon's Teenage Volunteer Program may interest you.

The summer program gives youth volunteers the opportunity to work with health care professionals in many areas of the hospital including patient registration, rehab services, wound care, medical surgical nursing unit, informatics, women's services and the gift shop. "The best thing about our Junior Volunteer Program is that it offers the students an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience, develop knowledge of the health care field, to meet new people and to give back to the community," Stacy Mosier, director of volunteer services, said in a news release.

Teen volunteers must be at least 14 years old with a B average or higher in school, have their parent's consent and encouragement, a letter of recommendation from a school guidance counselor, school teacher or pastor. The volunteer must also attend a mandatory orientation program at the hospital and have a health assessment (which is required for all hospital employees and volunteers) performed at the hospital at no cost. A current immunization record is also required.

Teenagers that are interested in participating should pick up an application from the Volunteer Services Department from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applications must be completed and submitted with a one-page essay explaining why they want to volunteer at McLeod Health Clarendon. Applications must be returned no later than 4 p.m. on May 6. No applications will be accepted after May 6.

For more information, contact Mosier at stacy.mosier@mcleodhealth.org, (803) 435-5287 or (803) 435-3392. The number of volunteers is limited.
