STAFF REPORT
Downtown Sumter’s Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, at 129 N. Washington St., also received an A safety score for fall 2024, according to Leapfrog Group.
The group’s report showed Tuomey performs better than average concerning MRSA infections, leaving objects in a patient’s body during surgery, blood leakage, accidental cuts and tears, collapsed lung, dangerous blood clots and other medical problems in a hospital setting.
Tuomey also performed better than average on several safety measures, including safe medication administration, handwashing and staff working together to prevent errors.
MANNING — McLeod Health Clarendon earned an "A" Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns an "A," "B," "C," "D" or "F" grade to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
"This recognition is a reflection of our teams' hard work, dedication and tireless efforts to provide quality care for our patients," said Dr. Caetie Rabon, rural regional chief medical officer for McLeod Health. "Surveys such as Leapfrog help us provide a culture of safety and identify how we can continue to improve the delivery of compassionate, quality care for every patient."
"Achieving an 'A' Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment for McLeod Health Clarendon," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "It reflects enormous dedication to your patients and their families, and your whole community should be proud. I extend my congratulations to McLeod Health Clarendon, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts to put patients first."
"At McLeod Health Clarendon, patient safety and quality care are our top priorities," said Rachel Gainey, CEO of McLeod Health Clarendon. "Receiving the Leapfrog Safety Grade of A is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our staff. This recognition, along with our A rating in the spring, highlights our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional care and maintaining the highest standards of safety for the communities we serve."
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
