MANNING - The emergency room at a rural hospital sees everything from the common cold to broken bones, victims of car wrecks and medical emergencies, including strokes, heart attacks and assaults. It takes a special person to be able to walk into that type of an environment and keep a level head while assisting physicians and other medical personnel.

Recently, McLeod Health Clarendon awarded Maggie Ridgeway, an Emergency Department Tech, with its Healthcare Hero award.

In presenting the award, the hospital thanked Ridgeway for her "compassionate care and dedication."

The hospital's Healthcare Hero program allows grateful patients, their families and friends the opportunity to support patient services and programs at McLeod Health. The program invites individuals to recognize hospital employees who have given exemplary care and show extraordinary kindness to patients.
