MANNING - A new hospitalist has joined the staff at McLeod Health Clarendon's Inpatient Medicine department.

Dr. John Rozich, who has more than 30 years of experience in patient care, served as chief cardiologist at Southern Arizona VA Health Care System in Tucson before joining MHC's Inpatient Medicine department.

Rozich is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease and enjoys working in different clinical areas of the health care system.

"The goal for a hospitalist is not just to help the patient recover, but to help them to avoid hospitalization in the future," Rozich said.

A hospitalist is a doctor that specializes in caring for patients while they are in the hospital. They coordinate care between a patient's primary care provider and specialists, monitor a patient's progress through the hospital stay and stay in close contact with a patient and the family.

Rozich, a native of Chicago, earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He also completed a fellowship in clinical cardiology at the MUSC in Charleston.

Rozich, who enjoys playing tennis and traveling with his family, lives in Manning with his wife, Mona.
