McLeod Primary Care Clarendon moves to new location, includes residency program

MANNING - McLeod Primary Care Clarendon has moved to a new location.

Previously housed on Bozard Street, McLeod Primary Care Clarendon is now located in the newly renovated McLeod Medical Plaza Clarendon, formerly known as The Cypress Center.

The medical practice of Drs. Clarence E. Coker and Lisa E. Heichberger and Family Nurse Practitioner Susanne Johnson began seeing patients in its new location, 50 E. Hospital St., on June 8.

"McLeod Health is committed to improving and expanding its services and medical treatment available to families and residents of Clarendon and surrounding areas who entrust us with their care," said Rachel Gainey, McLeod Health Clarendon administrator. "The expansion of McLeod Primary Care Clarendon to include the new McLeod Family Medicine Rural Residency Program is just the next step in our promise to increase access and the continuity of quality medical care to our community."

In an effort to increase availability of family medicine physicians to serve Clarendon and its surrounding rural communities as well as other rural areas in South Carolina, the McLeod Family Medicine Rural Residency Program is designed to train the "physicians of tomorrow." The mission of the program is to graduate skilled physicians whose commitment to intensive training in caring for high-acuity patients will prepare them to practice comprehensive and compassionate, full-scope family medicine, especially in rural or underserved communities.

The current program has the highest regional rural retention rate of all family medicine residencies in the state. Of the 252 residents who have graduates since the program's inception in 1983, 55 percent of the graduates continue to practice medicine in South Carolina. McLeod Family Medicine Rural Residency Program will also include residents Drs. Laine Blank Way and Lauren Benning.

McLeod Primary Care Clarendon is accepting new patients at its new location. For more information, call (803) 435-8828.

McLeod Primary Care Clarendon joins newly renovated McLeod Rehabilitation Clarendon and The Spa at McLeod Health Clarendon in McLeod Medical Plaza Clarendon. The plaza has a second phase of development scheduled that will include additional medical office space for primary and specialty care.
