Funeral services for Melvin Jarvis Geddis will be held at noon Monday at St. James United Methodist Church, 720 Broad St., with the Rev. Cheryl Giles Johnson officiating and the Rev. Lee Johnson, presiding. Interment will follow at Dicks Cemetery, Sumter.

The public may view from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Palmer Memorial Chapel, Sumter.

Melvin Jarvis Geddis, 62, transitioned on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina.

Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Moses Geddis Sr. and Janie Dicks Geddis. Mr. Geddis was a graduate of Sumter High School Class of 1975. He was first employed by the former Campbell Soup Co. in Sumter and later by Ford Motor Co. in Detroit, Michigan. After returning to Sumter, he joined and became a lifelong member of St James United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin brothers, Ronald and Donald Geddis.

Survivors include his siblings, Deborah Geddis of Fayetteville, North Carolina, William (Patricia) Geddis of Columbia, Moses Geddis Jr. of Greenville, North Carolina, and Daron (Mary Sue) Haynesworth of Clarksville, Tennessee; two aunts, Mary (Lamar) Gaines of Detroit and Martha Dicks of Sumter; sister-in-law, Brenda Geddis of Fayetteville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
