LEXINGTON - Merritt Junior Swinney, age 88, beloved husband of 43 years to the late Marlene Ann Pelletier Swinney, died on Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, at Oak Leaf Assisted Living Home.

Born in Nebraska City, Nebraska, he was a son of the late Merritt and Hazel Swinney. Mr. Swinney served in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a lieutenant colonel after 20 years of service. While on active duty, he served in Vietnam. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he went on to work as a revenue officer with the Internal Revenue Service and retired again after 20 years of service. Mr. Swinney enjoyed playing golf, working in his yard and was an avid runner for most of his life.

Surviving are one son, Matthew A. Swinney and his wife, Melinda, of Columbia; one daughter, Midge A. Swinney of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Virginia Hayley Keever and Samantha Jane Keever; and one great-grandchild, Tucker Jameson Sykes.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

A private graveside service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with full military honors.
