MILDRED RUTH WHITE MILLS

Mildred "Mickey" Ruth White Mills, 77, wife of Paul "Fred" Mills, died on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021, at NHC of Sumter.

Born on Aug. 24, 1944, in Sumter, she was the youngest daughter of the late Darby Holman White and Ruth Lackey White. "Mother" was a graduate of Edmunds High School and Palmer Business College in Columbia. In 1963, "Mother" married the love of her life, Fred. During his 22-year Air Force career, "Mother" made her family's home in France, twice in England, Nebraska and Sumter.

A long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, "Mother" worked many years with the Wednesday Folders, preparing the "Trumpeteer" for mailing. She was involved with Trinity's Living Christmas Story from its beginning. "Mother" was a member of the FAHoLo Sunday School class.

"Mother" loved to bake, especially decorated butter cookies. She also baked dozens of cookies each year for the Kairos Prison Ministry and the Shower Shaw with Cookies Project.

"Mother" is survived by her husband, Fred; two daughters, Terry Berry (Todd) of Florida and Denise DuBose (Early) of Sumter; one son, Paul Mills (Caroline) of Greenville; five grandchildren, Brittany Calhoun, Tyler Calhoun, Paul Calhoun (Krystal), Derek Berry and Shane Berry; and three sisters, Barbara Duby and husband, Bob, Joan Snapp and husband, Dan, and Judy Phillips, all of Sumter.

The family would like to thank NHC of Sumter for their loving care.

From "Mother" to "Father" "In our wedding rings we had engraved Father's "Together with Thee", Mother's: "Until Eternity". Neither knew what the other had planned 58 years of love and trust. I will love you always."

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Reginald Thackston officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

"Mother" requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crosswell Children's Home, 11 Crosswell Drive, Sumter, SC 29150 or flowers given to an elderly shut-in.
